Welcome to the home of Lazarus Theatre Company, a company truly committed to producing the best in classical theatre for a contemporary audience.
Spring Season 2013 started with our return to the Blue Elephant Theatre for Sophocles’ masterful and violent thriller, Oedipus. Set within a warring nation a King must hunt for those who create torment, as he searches deeper for the truth he realises, the ruin is all his. (26th Feb – 23rd March)
Our Season now continues with two of the most powerful plays of the Elizabethan/ Jacobean era, Shakespeare’s Lear and Marlowe’s Dido, Queen of Carthage. Lear focuses on a world in which a Kingdom is forced apart, a world in which revolution is inevitable, a world where a female now holds the title of King.
Marlowe’s rarely performed, Dido, Queen of Carthage is set against the back drop of the Trojan War where Aeneas, a Trojan hero falls madly in love with the ill-fated Queen of Carthage. Our production asks in a world controlled by the Gods can mere mortal love be enough. Both pieces play in rep with one large ensemble of actors and marks our debut at the Greenwich Theatre. (14th May – 1st June)
We hope that you shall join us for what promises to be one of our finest seasons to date and would like to thank all those who have made our work possible.
